Adoption FAQ

Since May 2018, Ten Lives has facilitated over 1000 adoptions! Our goal is to make lifelong matches based on the needs of the cat and adopter. As a foster-based rescue, we are able to asses the needs of the cats in our program and help them find the loving families they deserve!

Below are frequently asked questions about adoption. Thank you for considering a rescue cat!

We ask all potential adopters to complete an adoption application. If a cat is listed in the drop down menu of our application then we are still accepting adoption applications for them!

Our goal is to respond to potential adopters within 96 business hours. During kitten season, these times may be slightly extended due to the volume of applications we receive. Ten Lives is 100% volunteer-powered and does not have any paid staff. We kindly ask for your patience!

Our goal is to create lifelong matches. We do this by placing cats with the best-matched adopters based on the needs of the cat and applicant. We do not review applications on a first-come, first-serve basis. Our adoption process consists of a veterinary reference, verification of home ownership OR landlord’s approval, brief interview, and meet & greet.

Our adoption fee is inclusive of spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, FIV/FELV testing, parasite testing & treatment, flea treatment, and microchip with free lifetime registration. Thanks to generous donors, many of our cats receive care above and beyond routine services, like dentals, surgery, specialty consults, and blood work. In these cases, those services are inclusive of the adoption fee.

Due to limited volunteer bandwidth we do not have a pre-approval process. We kindly ask that you submit an application when you see a cat listed for adoption on our website. Due to a delay between our website and PetFinder, you may see a cat on Petfinder who isn’t listed on our application. If the cat is no longer listed on our application drop down menu, then we are no longer accepting applications. We appreciate your understanding!

Only cats listed on the drop down menu of our application are accepting adoption applications. Due to a delay between our website and PetFinder, you may see a cat on Petfinder who isn’t listed on our application. If the cat is no longer listed on our application drop down menu, then we are no longer accepting applications. We appreciate your understanding!

You can find a list of our adoption fees on our website.

Yes, we think cats can make wonderful companions for kids. Our goal is to make lifelong matches. We do this by placing cats with the best-matched adopters based on the needs of the cat and applicant. Most of our cats reside in foster homes until adopted. Out of respect for our for our fosters’ time and privacy, meet and greets are only scheduled for approved applicants. Once a Ten Lives cat, always a Ten Lives cat. If an adoption is not working out we kindly request that you return the cat to our program. We always accept our adopted cats back into the rescue. We also provide post-adoption support to all adopters. If you’re willing to work through an issue, we want to support you!
