Seamans Street Cats: A Rescue in Action

Seamans Street, a neighborhood in Providence has been the home of project that Ten Lives Cat Rescue’s trapping volunteers have been working since August of 2023. Over the past year and a half, we have trapped nearly 40 cats on this street. Some were born outside, and some were left behind. But, all of them deserved dignity and a chance at a better life. Over this time, our dedicated team has spent countless hours trapping these cats, one by one.

The Trapping Process: A Labor of Love

TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) is a methodical process. It requires patience, planning, and resources. First, humane traps are carefully placed in areas where the cats eat and shelter. Once trapped, the cats are transported and we evaluate their needs. Then one of our veterinarian partners will examine them, determine if there are any health issues and work with us on next steps.

For some, TNR is the best choice. These cats are truly community cats. They are not socialized to humans and would not thrive in a home setting. They are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and returned to their outdoor homes with a dedicated caretaker to feed them and monitor their well-being.

Others, however, show great potential for socialization and enter our foster homes where our fosters work to socialize them. All while they’re getting the care, patience, and love that they need to prepare them for adoption.

The Cost of Saving Lives

Each cat that enters our rescue needs food, shelter, and medical care. Some only need basic veterinary work—spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, and parasite treatment—while others face more complicated health issues like dental disease, infections, or untreated injuries. With nearly 40 cats, this project has cost more than $5,000.

But thanks to our generous donors, we’re able to provide these cats with what they need. Your support allows us to offer these cats dignity, care, and a future filled with hope.

This is Why We Do What We Do

At Ten Lives Cat Rescue, our mission is simple: to give compassionate care to cats in need and dignity to cats in our community while reducing the homeless cat population and inspiring change. Whether that means safely returning them to their outdoor homes, placing them in foster care to prepare for adoption, or covering urgent medical expenses, we are committed to helping every cat we can.

This work is only possible because of you. If you’d like to support future rescue efforts, please consider donating here. Every dollar helps us to give these cats dignity and a chance at a better life, as well as control overpopulation in the cat colonies within Rhode Island.
