Did you know that Ten Lives Cat Rescue is run entirely by volunteers? We currently have over 100 volunteers in various roles helping us achieve our mission—to save homeless, abused, and abandoned cats by providing veterinary care, rehabilitation services, and then placing them into loving adoptive homes.
Michela has volunteered with us since the Fall of 2019 as one of our incredible Adoption Coordinators. During her time as an Adoption Coordinator, Michela has helped over 70 cats and kittens find their forever homes! We truly appreciate everything Michela does for our rescue and are thankful she is on our team!
Michela’s resident cats are a sister and brother duo named Flora and Shiloh (or collectively, “the Beans!”), who she adopted as kittens five years ago.
1. How did you start volunteering at Ten Lives?
I was a new Providence resident, and I wanted to find a role where I could help local animals outside of my 9-5 office job.
2. What motivates you to give back to the community with Ten Lives?
All the passion of our volunteer community (and support community)! It’s incredible how much dedication goes into running an organization like this. I play a small part, and it truly does take a village! I’m always in awe of everyone’s skill sets and great ideas. Of course, getting to see all the adorable feline faces that we help find their forever homes is motivating, as well!
3. What is your favorite memory while volunteering with us?
A few years ago, a unique adoption request came through where our applicant was hoping to find a companion pet for his elderly mother who was sadly diagnosed with dementia. She loved cats, and he knew adopting a cat would really help her feel happy. We were able to find a perfect match for her! The adopter sent us a video of his mother meeting her new friend for the first time, and it was love at first sight. It was amazing to be part of facilitating that joy for such a wonderful family.
4. Why should others consider volunteering with us?
There’s a role for everyone! With so many volunteer options, there’s something that can work for every skill set and time commitment level.
5. What do you love to do when you aren’t volunteering?
I love working with my hands! I’m part of a ceramics studio, I bake bread non-stop, and I make loads of homemade pasta. I also try to be outside as much as possible.
