Volunteer Spotlight: Sarah

Did you know that Ten Lives Cat Rescue is run entirely by volunteers? We currently have over 100 volunteers in various roles helping us achieve our mission—to save homeless, abused, and abandoned cats by providing veterinary care, rehabilitation services, and then placing them into loving adoptive homes.

Sarah has volunteered with us for about ten months and is one of our dedicated Community Cats trappers. Sarah is also our Providence Petco event lead—if you have stopped by this store and saw our table, there is a high chance you saw Sarah, as well! Sarah has two resident cats named Moonshine and Faye. We truly appreciate everything Sarah does to help our rescue and the cats in our community!

1. How did you start volunteering at Ten Lives?

I wanted to get more involved in Rhode Island community, and I love cats!

2. What motivates you to give back to the community with Ten Lives?

Cat trapping is a lot of fun; it’s like a stakeout. It takes equal parts of creativity and patience. I also love meeting a new cat every time I bring one to our monthly Providence Petco events!

3. What is your favorite memory while volunteering with us?

Trapping Jupiter, a community cat who needed eye surgery to correct inverted eyelids. His feeder was worried about him, so I worked to trap him over the course of five hours and three visits, with two kinds of traps. Finally, I decided to be bold and casually walked up to his outdoor house and quickly put a trap up to the door. I was so proud of myself for catching a cat who so clearly needed our help. He’s now in a Ten Lives foster home and is doing well.

4. Why should others consider volunteering with us?

To meet and bond with new cats—and people. To help give cats the lives they deserve. I truly trust that Ten Lives does right by every cat in its care.

5. What do you love to do when you aren’t volunteering?

More volunteering through feeding the (human) community with Providence Food Not Bombs. I also love to listen to music, craft, go on adventures, and hang out with my beloved partner and cats.
